Ahmedabad: Sajith N, 27, the first graduate of Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad (MICA) who, straight out of college opted for a career as an entrepreneur, wants to take the social networking to a different level where it is done for a cause.Sajith runs a communication consultancy — Plink Solutions.
Sajith, with his friend and owner of Cybersurf India,Sameer Sanghvi, has launched a social networking website, ‘Pledge a Tree’ which is open for people to post their pledges, resolutions or any promise, which will have an impact on the society. For every pledge that is posted on the website, Sajith and his team will plant a tree in their name.
“This will be a forum where like-minded people can come together and share small efforts taken in order to make a difference in the society. These efforts can be anything from funding the education for their maid’s child, separating degradable and non-degrad
able waste, making visits to orphanages or old-age homes or any such task beneficial to society,” said Sajith.
“For each of these pledges, a tree will be planted. We launched this initiative on June
5 — the World Environment Day. Our first plantation activity was carried out on Sunday on a piece of land given to us in Bandhani village in Anand district. It was a grazing land and lying vacant. The villagers agreed to give it to us for a green cause. The villagers and sarpanch Natu Solanki were also of great help,” added Sajith.
Saplings of gulmohar, neem, mango, rose apple and eucalyptus were planted at Anand. “The saplings that we have chosen to plant have been selected after consultation from experts of NV Patel College of Environmental Science, organic farmers and members of the nature club around Valabh Vidyanagar. The research for the same has been on since February,” said Sajith.
As members of the networking site continue to increase, the duo is hoping that they will get volunteers to help them plant trees. “The volunteers will need to dedicate time once a week where they can come along and help us plant trees and maintain them,” added Sajith.

I found this in The Times of India and thought I should pass it around.
